Tips from the kitchen

  • The 2 dl oats to 2 dl milk ratio gives you thick oats. If you like them looser in the morning, splash in a little more milk when you stir in the quark.
  • Wait to chop the almonds until morning. Chopped ahead, they lose their crunch sitting in the fridge.
  • Don't fold the quark in the night before. Add it after the overnight soak so the oats stay creamy and the quark keeps its texture.
  • Add the berries last, right before you eat. Raspberries especially go mushy and bleed color if they sit in the oats.
  • A glass with a tight lid works best so the oats don't pick up fridge smells overnight.

Ways to vary it

  • Swap the quark for plain or Greek yogurt if that's what you have. It makes the oats a touch tangier.
  • Strawberries or blackberries work in place of the raspberry and blueberry, depending on what's in season.
  • A spoon of honey or maple syrup stirred in with the quark is a nice option if you want it sweeter.

Storage & leftovers

Keeps in the fridge for up to 3 days, but add the berries and almonds fresh each morning rather than all at once. The soaked oat base doesn't freeze well, it turns watery once thawed. No reheating needed, this one is meant to be eaten cold straight from the fridge.

What to serve with it

A mug of coffee or tea is all this needs. If you want more on the table, a glass of juice or a few extra berries on the side rounds out breakfast.
